Outside Market Entry and Diversification - Essay Example Investment in the accommodation business is proposed as the proper expansion goal for the organization as contained in this conversation. This report features the subtleties of directing an expansion plan for the business into a generally related business line, attributable to the development status of the standard business. Avocation As represented, moving from the vehicle portfolio into the neighborliness segment as proposed for reasons for business coinciding as far as progression of activities exhibits the rationale behind the proposition. Considering the tasks standing and status in the American market combined with the current development aspirations over the outskirts, the friendliness business seems to help development as envisioned. The job of business complementarity for the two portfolios is for motivations behind absorbing danger presentation and gives sustaining to the creating industry in an immediate variant (Lawton and Weaver, 2009). Because of the requests of another business line of activities concerning abroad nearness as a drawn out expansion idea, giving the nexus in cooperative energies of related business in the complementarity idea forecasts well with development possibilities. Ship Breaking Industries of Bangladesh free essay sample
The marine condition of the waterfront water is crucial to humankind on a worldwide just as on nearby premise concerning vitality. Man is turning into a predominant piece of the biological system in numerous districts, because of his different employments of the marine condition. So the soundness of marine biological system is a significant factor in man own reality. The Bay of Bengal which is a potential bode of marine life just as for itââ¬â¢s tremendous beach front networks is currently consistently contaminated by various sorts of poison through flood of land base and different sources and put a disturbing sign of mindfulness about contamination in the ocean. The waterfront zones of Chittagong Support a complex trophic association continue a high biodiversity including some endemic species and are exceptionally vulnerable to impedance from exercises. Beach front environment makes a feasible job especially to waterfront angling networks. Boat breaking yards along the bank of Chittagong (Faujdarhat to Kumira) has become a fundamental significance in the full scale and miniaturized scale monetary setting of destitution stricken Bangladesh. Shipbreaking exercises present both test and open door for waterfront zone the board in comprehensive way. The historical backdrop of boat breaking is as about old as shipbuilding. As we realize that a boat is moderately a huge vessel equipped for working in the profound sea. The term ââ¬Ëvesselsââ¬â¢ applies to the vessels of more than 5000 tons and that can explore in untamed oceans. In Bangladesh transport breaking is prominently known as ââ¬ËBeachingââ¬â¢. Boat breaking began as a business in Bangladesh in 1972. Preceding that, 2/3 boats were rejected during Pakistan period. It began consequently when a 20000 DWT vessel was drive shorewards by the overwhelming tidal bore of 1965. That was the main boat rejected on the 2 Chittagong ocean sea shore. At present, transport breaking is led in a region of around 10 km by 32 out of 110 boat Breaking yards from Bhatiari, Sonaichhari, kumira under the Sitakunda upazilla of Chittagong. The Department of Environment (DoE) has ordered the Ship Breaking Industry (SBI) as ââ¬ËRedââ¬â¢ in 1995(EIA rules for the Industries, 1997). The Environmental Impact appraisal (EIA) isn't directed before the foundation of SBI. As there is no checking cell, the Shipyard proprietors are working their business overwhelmingly just as aimlessly. They are less cognizant about perils, harmfulness and natural contamination while progressively cognizant about their advantage. Squanders of the rejected boats are released legitimately into its contiguous regions which are at last depleting into the Bay of Bengal. These squanders particularly oil and slick substances, PCBs, TBTs, PAHs and so forth and various sorts of follow and substantial metals (Cd, Pb, and Hg) are being collected into the marine biota. Therefore, marine fisheries decent variety of the Chittagong coast that bolsters profoundly enhanced marine water fishes, mollusks and benthic creatures and so forth is at the stake directly right now. Besides the Coastal occupants/fisher people lead their jobs as well as exclusively rely upon the seaside assets for their protein source. The CPUE (Catch Per Unit exertion) has radically been diminished to the greater part nearly of a couple of decades back. As an outcome, the beach front fisher people are at the stake of their reality. They are either leaving their innate calling or relocating to different places and turning out to be ââ¬Ëenvironmental refugeesââ¬â¢. That is the reason their financial status is underneath the neediness level. There are hardly any investigations was done to discover the linkage between Ship breaking movement (SBA) and the marine contamination, sway on fisheries biodiversity and employments of the anglers network. In those looks into, specialists considered Bhatiary to Kumira as influenced territory and Sandwip Island as control zone from the shipbreaking action. The eastern side of Sandwip has been considered as control site on the grounds that these are askew inverse and off the SBYs and the water and soil characteristics are evidently liberated from contaminations as uncovered from the previous investigations. From the past examination we found that follow metals fixation in residue at shipbreaking zone are such a great amount of higher than proposal by GESAMP (Joint Group of Experts on the Scientific Aspects of Marine Pollution). Yet, the analysts found that Sandwip which is altogether very lower than that of dregs at influenced territory. The estimations of Lead (Pb), Cadmium(Cd) and Mercury(Hg) discovered six and half; eight and half and ninety four times higher than that of affirmed esteems separately. These could be credited to the joined impacts of oil and oil spillage, oil hydrocarbons from ships, big haulers, automated pontoons and so forth. During the examination all the analyst discovered water characteristics, for example, Hydrogen Ion H Concentration (p ), Dissolve Oxygen (D. O), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (B. O. D), Chemical Oxygen Demand (C. O. D), Total Suspended Solid (TSS), Total Dissolved Solid (TDS), Oil and Ammonia (NH3) were thought as a higher incentive in influenced region than control territory as indicated by the standard estimation of water quality for the seaside water of Bangladesh (EQS, 1991). All the parameters watched such a higher, that they surpassed the estimation of EQS. Yet, the water parameters in Sandwip channel were ideal and close to the estimation of EQS standard. Water characteristics in influenced territory surpassed the EQS standard which uncovers that the water body of the contiguous zone of boat breaking yards isn't appropriate for the presence of verdure. The higher fixation was because of the release of different reject oils and slick substances, colors, synthetics, iron pieces, different sorts of metal rusts, solids, colors, disintegration of soil dust and so on from the boat breaking yards. Toxins are likewise released from the Sitakunda modern territory into the run-off open to the Bay. Effect of Marine Biodiversity: Biodiversity, which is sort for organic decent variety, is the term used to portray the entire assortment of life on earth. In famous utilization, the word biodiversity is frequently used to portray all the species living in a specific region. Biodiversity can be summed up as ââ¬Å"Life on earth. â⬠It is characterized as ââ¬Å" The assortments of life on earth at all its levels, from qualities to biological system, and the natural and developmental procedures that continue it. â⬠The complete biodiversity of a zone can be separated into two various leveled segments: the quantity of practical sorts of living beings (creatures and plants) or environments (timberland, prairie, tundra and marine intertidal) and the quantity of practically comparable living beings inside each useful kind. There are three sorts of viewpoints to biodiversity: species assorted variety, hereditary decent variety and environment assorted variety. Every one of the three cooperate and change after some time and all around. Phytoplankton is the essential food makers of the amphibian environment and assumes a significant job in the evolved way of life. Phytoplankton is the best file of the natural efficiency. Examination of phytoplankton demonstrated that during storm, Aanabaena , Clostratrum(10. 98%) and Coscinodiscus(21. 97%), Euglena (9. 89%) and Zygnema (30. 76%) and during post storm Coscinodiscus (97. 5%) and Euglena (2. 5%) commanded in the influenced site. In the control site of Sandwip, these were overwhelmed as 30. 41%, 19. 46%; 17. 03%; 9. 73%; 23. 35% in the storm and 94. 73% and 5. 26% individually in the post rainstorm. All through the examination time frame the plenitude of phytoplankton at influenced site was 91 cells/l in rainstorm season and 80 cells/l in post storm season and in control site it was 411 cells/l in rainstorm season and 190 cells/l in post storm season. Floating little skimming creatures, in the water body are all in all known as zooplankton on which the entire oceanic life depends straightforwardly or in a roundabout way. As zooplankton is exceptionally touchy to ideal condition, so the beach front contamination because of boat breaking exercises may have significant effects on its endurance and event. Examination of zooplankton demonstrated that Calanoida, Cyclopedia, Sagitta, Lucifer and so on in the rainstorm and Calanoida; Acetes shrimp; Lucifer and Zoea in the post storm were commanded in the influenced site as uncovered during zooplankton investigation though in the control site the predominant zooplankton were found as Calanoida, Cylpclpedia, Sagitta and Zoea during the post rainstorm and Calanoida; Acetes shrimp, Lucifer, Cladocera and Zoea in the post storm separately. The base living creatures ââ¬the benthos assume a significant job in the natural pecking order particularly in the entomb tidal zone and it is additionally all around perceived that the most extravagant fisheries of the world are firmly identified with the benthic networks. Among the large scale benthos, Amphipods, Polychaetes, Nemertina and Fish egg in the rainstorm and Nemertina, Cladocera, Cyclopoida and Calanoida were seen as commanded at the influenced site. Be that as it may, at the control site, Amphipod, Polychaete, Nemertina, Fish egg during the rainstorm and Cladocera, Nemertina , Calanoida and Polychaete in the post storm were ruled So, the wealth of full scale benthos in influenced site was 118. 46 ind. /m3 in storm season and 4186. 74 ind. /m3 in post storm season, while in the control site 368. 28 ind. /m3 in rainstorm season and 14204. 41 ind. /m3 in post storm season. The fishery assets of the region is by all accounts influenced by the boat breaking exercises as uncovered by expanded angling endeavors, decreased species assorted variety, expanded measure of junk fish. Even extension of the boat breaking yards has presented danger not exclusively to the broadened waterfront assets yet additionally on the adjoining beach front occupants extraordinarily the fisher people. The angling villas of this investigation were discovered in reverse in the field of essential training and wellbeing that are the fundamental requirements for them. Correspondence and drinking water gracefully were watched good yet the sanitation status was seen as poor.

Mentorships Accelerate For Biz Majors
Mentorships Accelerate For Biz Majors by: Alison Damast on March 16, 2018 | 0 Comments Comments 347 Views March 16, 2018Students outside the Villanova School of Business, which has recently launched a mentoring program connecting current students with alums. Courtesy photoKatherine Connor, executive director of career development at the University of Colorado Boulderââ¬â¢s Leeds Schools of Business, is somewhat of a mentorship guru in the management education world. Since she started her schoolââ¬â¢s thriving mentorship program for undergraduate business students in 2009, she has fielded phone calls from more than a dozen schools who sought to start their own mentorship programs including MIT, the University of Michigan, and Arizona State University. These schools and others have looked to her for advice because Leeds has crafted a seamless mentorship experience that starts for many students from the moment they set foot in school, Connor says.ââ¬Å"We tell them from day one this is something you do while youââ¬â¢re here. Itââ¬â¢s part of the experience,â⬠Connor tells PoetsQuants.Freshman who sign up are connected with an upper class student mentor their first year of school. Sophomores then move onto the Young Alumni Mentors program, where the school matches them with a recent Leeds graduate now in the workforce. By their third year of school, they are paired with a more experienced professional who guides them, often virtually, through the job and internship process their junior and senior year. By the time they graduate, about 75% of Leeds students have had a mentor as part of their college experience. The mentors and mentees gather together every spring for the schoolââ¬â¢s annual mentoring celebration, where many get to meet face-to-face for the first time.ââ¬Å"It is kind of a huge love-fest,â⬠Connor explains. ââ¬Å"So many of our mentors stay connected with students, help them during their first year on the job, and eve n go to their weddings.â⬠BUSINESS SCHOOLS NOW MAKING UP ONE-THIRD OF CHRONUS ACADEMIC CUSTOMERSMentorship programs are having a renaissance of sorts at undergraduate business programs and universities all over the country. Leedsââ¬â¢ program, which uses Chronus mentorship matching software to pair students with mentors, will be celebrating its tenth anniversary next year, but many other business schools are just getting their mentorship programs off the ground. In the last few years, the Arizona State Universitys W. P. Carey School of Business, Villanova Universityââ¬â¢s School of Business, and the University of Pittsburghââ¬â¢s College of Business Administration have launched their own programs.à Administrators at these B-schools are looking for new and innovative ways to connect students with their alums, something that a well-designed and easily scalable mentorship program can easily deliver on, Connor says.A growing number of schools are using mentorship softwar e programs such like Chronus, which uses a matching algorithm called ââ¬Å"MatchIQ to automate recommendations for mentorship matches based on usersââ¬â¢ profiles and interest, making it easer than ever before for business schools to start these programs. The software allows universities to adapt easily to trends in the mentorship world, such as the recent rise of flash mentoring, where students use the mentorship software to arrange one-time meet-and-greets or interviews with a prospective mentor.Administrators at these schools say they are already seeing results in terms of higher alumni engagement and, anecdotally, evidence of improved career outcomes for students. This doesnââ¬â¢t surprise Chronus CEO Seena Mortazavi, who says business schools now make up about one-third of the companyââ¬â¢s academic customers. The company has recently seen an uptick in business programs signing up to use the software, particularly international business programs. ââ¬Å"Mentoring is be coming a key pillar for universities that are looking to give their students an edge in career placement,â⬠Mortazavi confirms.HUNDREDS OF VILLANOVA BIZ MAJORS PARTICIPATING IN PROGRAMVillanova has matched up more than 850 pairs of mentors since first piloting its mentorship program in January of 2014. The school officially rolled out its mentorship program in February of 2016, with 150 sophomores signing up for the first year. Enrollment has grown every year as word of the program has spread, with 250 sophomores participating in the program this year, says Michele Gianforcaro, assistant director of professional development at Villanovaââ¬â¢s Charles and James V. O Donnell Center for Professional Development. Villanova also uses Chronus software to pair sophomores with alumni mentors in one-to-one relationships that run through graduation. Alumni have been eager to participate in the program, and the school has secured over 1,000 alumni volunteer mentors for the programs, ra nging from the class of 1962 to 2015, Gianforcaro explains. According to Gianforcaro, the school does not track career outcomes for students with mentors, but participants tell her mentors give them targeted career guidance that helps them land internships quicker and stand out from the crowd.ââ¬Å"I think students are landing in the right job sooner or staying away from the wrong jobs because of their mentoring relationships,â⬠Gianforcaro explains. ââ¬Å"Students love that they have a personal confidant, a mentor that they can go to on faith and say, Iââ¬â¢m not really sure what I want to do.ââ¬â¢ Our alumni are excited to get involved too. They tell us all the time, ââ¬ËI wish I had a program like this when I was in college.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ For the first time this year, Villanova introduced a new ââ¬Å"Flash Mentoringâ⬠track, which allows students to access Villanovaââ¬â¢s database to pick a volunteer alum and reach out to them for a one-time meeting. Over 300 alumni have volunteered to serve as ââ¬Å"flash mentorsâ⬠for students, Gianforcaro says, and many juniors and seniors are taking advantage of this new offering as they embark on their job search. â⬠Flash mentoring is very much on trend with millennials,â⬠she says. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s an added benefit for students who want to opt in and get more experience with alumni.â⬠ARIZONA STATES CAREY SCHOOL INTEGRATING MENTORING INTO CLASSROOMGrowth has come fast and furious to the undergraduate mentoring program at Arizona Statesââ¬â¢s W. P. Carey School, started at the bequest of Dean Amy Hillman in 2014. Hillman wanted to find a way for undergraduates to reach out to and meet professionals outside of the school, as well as give alums a chance to reconnect with their alma mater, explains Jennifer Shick, the assistant director of student engagement and the mentorship program at the Carey School. There were about 50 students who signed up for the program in 2014, b ut participation has steadily grown as word of the program has spread. This past fall, 596 students signed up, Shick says. Like Leeds and Villanova, the school uses Chronus software to manage the program and their own flash mentoring. The school is trying to boost student participation by bringing the mentorship program into the classroom. Carey has a required career development course for juniors, and, for the first time this year, offered the mentorship program to students as an extra credit option. Of the 1,500 students in the class, 300 signed up and agreed to write reflections on their mentorship experience as well as complete the milestones required by the program. By the end of the school year, however, only 47 students followed through and received the extra credit.ââ¬Å"It was a disappointing drop off, but I still think one of the ways to get students at the school involved in a mentorship relationship is to tie it into academics,â⬠says Shick, who plans to introduce t he mentorship program next year into other classes juniors take at the school. ââ¬Å"We can hold this out as something they can do to move forward in their career goals and make sure they are in the right industry.â⬠FROM MENTEE TO MENTORThe University of Pittsburgh launched its Pitt Business Mentoring Match program this year, using the mentoring platform Xinspire to help match up students with alums. To date, 200 students, ranging from freshman to seniors, have signed up for a mentor, and 400 alums from all over the country have agreed to be a mentor, Audrey Murrell, the associate dean of the College of Business Administration, says. The programââ¬â¢s rollout has been a big success and plans are underway to grow the program to accommodate even more students and mentors, Murrell explains.ââ¬Å"A good problem to have would be more demand than we can accommodate,â⬠Murrell continues. ââ¬Å"You canââ¬â¢t show the return on investment in mentoring relationships, but yo u can make a good case for the power of mentoring relationships. They give students a safe place to talk about things they are concerned about and it gives us an unexpected resources to make sure we are doing all we can to support student.â⬠Mentorship programs can shape studentsââ¬â¢ college experience in unexpected ways. Rachel Wilcox, a business student at the Leeds School, signed up for her schoolââ¬â¢s Peer2Peer mentoring program her freshman year, and had such a positive experience that she continued on with the schoolââ¬â¢s Young Alumni mentoring program as a sophomore this year. Wilcox was matched with Monica Agsam, an accountant from Ernst Young in New York City. Agsam has helped Wilcox hone in on her major (operations and finance), fine tune her career goals, and connected her with friends who work in the finance world. Wilcox plans to continue with the schoolââ¬â¢s Professional Mentorship program next year as a junior and hopes to serve as a peer mentor n ext year to freshman and eventually serve as an alumni mentor after she graduates from Leeds.ââ¬Å"My mentor this year has helped me more than anyone else with figuring out what major I want to do and narrow down what I think is best for me,â⬠Wilcox says. ââ¬Å"My mentors were so amazing that if I can give back and do something for another freshman, like my mentor did for me, I will be so happy.â⬠DONT MISS: FRESHMEN, SOPHOMORE RECRUITING ON THE RISE or B-SCHOOLS WITH THE BEST COLLEGE EXPERIENCE Page 1 of 11

What Is Computer Programming
Programming is a creative process that instructs a computer on how to do a task. Hollywood has helped instill an image of programmers as uber techies who can sit down at a computer and break any password in seconds. The reality is far less interesting. So Programming Is Boring?à Computers do what they are told, and their instructions come in the form of programs written by humans. Many knowledgeable computer programmers write source code that can be read by humans but not by computers. In many cases, that source code is compiled to translate the source code into machine code, which can be read by computers but not by humans. These compiled computer programming languages include: Visual BasicDelphiCCà C#CobolFortranObjective-CSwiftPascalPython Some programming does not need to be compiled separately. Rather, it is composed of a just-in-time process on the computer for which it is running. These programs are called interpreted programs. Popular interpreted computer programming languages include: JavascriptPerlPHPPostscriptPythonRuby Programming languages each require knowledge of their rules and vocabulary. Learning a new programming language is similar to learning a new spoken language. What Do Programs Do? Fundamentally programs manipulate numbers and text. These are the building blocks of all programs. Programming languages let you use them in different ways by using numbers and text and storing data on disk for later retrieval. These numbers and text are called variables, and they can be handled singly or in structured collections. In C, a variable can be used to count numbers. Aà structà variable in code can hold payroll details for an employee such as: NameSalaryCompany Id NumberTotal Tax PaidSSN A database can hold millions of these records and fetch them rapidly. Programs Are Written for Operating Systems Each computer has an operating system, which is itself a program. The programs that run on that computer must be compatible with its operating system. Popular operating systems include:à WindowsLinuxMacOSUnixAndroid Before Java, programs had to be customized for each operating system. A program that ran on a Linux computer could not run on a Windows computer or a Mac. With Java, it is possible to write a program once and then run it everywhere as it is compiled to a common code called bytecode, which is then interpreted. Each operating system has a Java interpreter written for it and knows how to interpret bytecode.à Much computer programming occurs to update existing applications and operating systems. Programs use features provided by the operating system and when those change, the programs must change. Sharing Programming Code Many programmers write software as a creative outlet. The web is full of websites with source code developed by amateur programmers who do it for fun and are happy to share their code. Linux started this way when Linus Torvalds shared code he had written. The intellectual effort in writing a medium-sized program is comparable to writing a book, except you never need to debug a book. Computer programmers find joy in discovering new ways to make something happen or in solving a particularly thorny problem.

Should Prostitution Be Legal - 1911 Words
Legalizing Prostitution When it comes to the topic of legalizing prostitution, some of us will readily agree that it is the oldest profession that involves money rather than the historic hunter and gather. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of the safety of the man or woman selling their body for financial gain. Though I concede that prostitution can be dangerous, I still insist that legalizing prostitution would not only benefit the men and women involved, it would also be a financial gain to the government. Prostitution is the oldest profession, and it isnââ¬â¢t going away any time soon. We have legalized gambling, marijuana and tobacco but the fair trade of sex for money still remains something that is frowned upon. Instead of looking at prostitution as inhumane, it should be looked at as a service industry where two consenting adults exchange money for pleasure. Making prostitution legal would allow the sexual favor to be managed rather than ignored. Legalizing prostitution could save money for the government in many ways. There would be fewer court cases, and law enforcement could focus on gang related issues, instead of arresting prostitutes, holding them in jail, only to release them back to the streets. It is a never ending cycle because it is not legal. It is true, there are millions of sexually exploited women and men who are involved in prostitution that are treated like animals by their pimps and often times their own customers.Show MoreRelatedShould Prostitution Be Legal? Prostitution Through the Functionalism Essay Example For Students
Prostitution Through the Functionalism Essay Throughout America and the entire world, prostitution flourishes rapidly. Prostitution is another never ending war like abortion, which society feels is immoral. This immorality leads functionalists, who apply functionalism to this social problem, on a chase to figure out why prostitution is what it is today. Functionalism is the best theory for looking at prostitution. It allows us to see how prostitution changes along with other aspects of society. Some ask why prostitution spreads like a wildfire through our cities and streets. This is an easy question for functionalists, prostitution flourishes because it satisfies sexual needs that are not able to be met elsewhere(Henslin 51). Prostitutes almost seem to serve as an outlet for sexually frustrated men. When a man is unable to find a partner he always holds the option of paying for sexual pleasure. A functionalist, Kingsley Davis, concluded that prostitutes provide a sexual outlet for men who: have difficulty in establishing sexual relationships, cannot find long-term partners, have a broken relationship, want sexual gratification that is defined as immoral, desire quick sexual gratification without attachment, are curious, and are sexually dissatisfied in marriage. From this it is shown that by meeting such needs prostitution functions as a form of social control over sexual behavior. This is beneficial because it brings men with sexual desires away from unwilling partners to partners that are willing but for a certain price. This undoubtedly helps bring down the number of rapes and sexual assault for any given society. Also it brings in trashy hookers or prostitutes that seem to degrade any given city or society. The functionalist theory is the best way to view prostitution through a sociological perspective. Functionalists see prostitution as a means of controlling or channeling sexual behaviors (Henslin 53). Prostitutes meet the needs of men who otherwise do not have women always available to them. Also it meets the needs of a man because it is inexpensive, non emotional and a fleeting relationship. Through looking at prostitution we see that it persists because it serves social functions. This works by servicing people who are sexually frustrated. Prostitutes relieve pressures that otherwise might be placed on people who are unwilling to participate. Without the aid from prostitutes stimulating the un-stimulated, there might be other social problems that become bigger issues such as, rape sexual assault, kidnap and many more. Functionalism allows seeing each function that prostitution serves in a society. Since prostitution serves as a function in a bigger problem there are a couple different strategic ways of tackling this social problem. The first way is the most obvious and that would be to legalize prostitution. Legalizing prostitution would have a couple of impacts on society. Much the same as it is today men would be satisfied for a price, but that is better than men trying to get satisfaction from the unwilling. Second the government could tax the business just as it would any other business in the United States. Third the women or prostitutes could have actual jobs instead of having to watch and run from the police as they work their job. Though this seems as a good solution, it may back fire. With this being such a major social problem it is hard to make it seem OK to the larger society. If prostitution was legalized it would allow more poorly dressed women to be roaming the streets. Which then leads to lower class males swarming these areas, which leads to more corruption and a higher crime rate. This then leads to another social problem created, a seemingly never ending dilemma. The only solution is to leave prostitution at the place it is at today. .uac9405da5211e852714050109dec8bd7 , .uac9405da5211e852714050109dec8bd7 .postImageUrl , .uac9405da5211e852714050109dec8bd7 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uac9405da5211e852714050109dec8bd7 , .uac9405da5211e852714050109dec8bd7:hover , .uac9405da5211e852714050109dec8bd7:visited , .uac9405da5211e852714050109dec8bd7:active { border:0!important; } .uac9405da5211e852714050109dec8bd7 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uac9405da5211e852714050109dec8bd7 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uac9405da5211e852714050109dec8bd7:active , .uac9405da5211e852714050109dec8bd7:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uac9405da5211e852714050109dec8bd7 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uac9405da5211e852714050109dec8bd7 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uac9405da5211e852714050109dec8bd7 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uac9405da5211e852714050109dec8bd7 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uac9405da5211e852714050109dec8bd7:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uac9405da5211e852714050109dec8bd7 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uac9405da5211e852714050109dec8bd7 .uac9405da5211e852714050109dec8bd7-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uac9405da5211e852714050109dec8bd7:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Alexander The Great Essay It is not legal by any means, but the punishment is not overly harsh. There should be a ticket given to prostitutes for committing these acts. At the same time it should not be stopped because prostitution aids a bigger social problem, rape and sexual assault. It is true, prostitution satisfies the sexual needs of men which are not otherwise satisfied. If we took prostitution completely away we would just be beginning a greater social problem within itself. .

Slow Walkers Essay Example
Slow Walkers Paper You might ask why it is such a problem well there are many reasons like it puts me in an aggravated and angry mood. Another reason is who wants to walk around people all the time causing the people the other way to slow down and get frustrated with you, and probably the most important is that it makes me hours late for my classes that I love so much like English class, and what excuses do I have Oh sorry Im late all the people walking were extremely slow like what teacher with believe that. Well I got some ideas that will stop you from getting cranky, having people yell at you, and being late for class. My first idea is to have designated spots for people to stop and talk if they please, is have wider halls with a fast and slow lanes, third idea is if you are caught stopping in the halls and causing people to slow down you will have a consequence and final is you are able to push them out of the way. Hopefully one day all these slow walking people will learn to walk faster or get out of my WAY! The Surprising History of Black People in Germany
The Surprising History of Black People in Germany The German census does not poll residents on race, following World War II, so there is no definitive number of the population of black people in Germany. One reportà byà the European Commission against Racism and Intoleranceà estimates there are 200,000 to 300,000 black people living in Germany, although other sources guess that number is higher, upwards of 800,000.à Regardless of the specific numbers, which dont exist, black people are a minority in Germany, but they still are present and have played an important role in the countrysà history.à In Germany, black people are typically referred to as Afro-Germans (Afrodeutsche) or black Germans (Schwarzeà Deutsche).à Early History Some historians claim that the first, sizable influx of Africans came to Germany from Germanys African colonies in the 19th century. Some black people living in Germany today can claim ancestry dating back five generations to that time. Yet Prussias colonial pursuits in Africa were quite limited and brief (from 1890 to 1918), and far more modest than the British,à Dutch and French powers. Prussias South West African colony was the site of the first mass genocide committed by Germans in the 20th century. In 1904, German colonial troops countered a revolt with the massacre of three-quarters of the Herero population in what is now Namibia. It took Germany a full century to issue a formal apology to the Herero for that atrocity, which was provoked by a German extermination order (Vernichtungsbefehl). Germany still refuses to pay any compensation to the Herero survivors, although it does provide foreign aid to Namibia.à Black Germans Prior to World War II After World War I, more blacks, mostly French Senegalese soldiers or their offspring, ended up in the Rhineland region and other parts of Germany. Estimates vary, but by the 1920s, there were about 10,000 to 25,000 black peopleà in Germany, most of them in Berlin or other metropolitan areas. Until the Nazis came to power, black musicians and other entertainers were a popular element of the nightlife scene in Berlin and other large cities. Jazz, later denigrated as Negermusik (Negro music) by the Nazis, was made popular in Germany and Europe by black musicians, many from the U.S., who found life in Europe more liberating than that back home. Josephine Baker in France is one prominent example. Both the American writer and civil rights activist W.E.B. du Bois and the suffragist Mary Church Terrell studied at the university in Berlin. They later wrote that they experienced far less discrimination in Germany than they had in the U.S. The Nazis and theBlack Holocaust When Adolf Hitler came to power in 1932, the racist policies of the Nazis impacted other groups besides the Jews. The Nazis racial purity laws also targeted gypsies (Roma), homosexuals, people with mental disabilitiesà and black people. Precisely how many black Germans died in Nazià concentration campsà is not known, but estimates put the figure at between 25,000 and 50,000. The relatively low numbers of black people in Germany, their wide dispersal across the country and the Nazis focus on the Jews were some factors that made it possible for many black Germans to survive the war.à African Americans in Germany The next influx of black people to Germany came in the wake of World War II when many African-American GIs were stationed in Germany.à In Colin Powellsà autobiography My American Journey, heà wroteà ofà his tour of duty in West Germany in 1958 that for ... black GIs, especially those out of the South, Germany was a breath of freedom - à they could go where they wanted, eat where they wanted and date whom they wanted, just like other people. The dollar was strong, the beer good, and the German people friendly. But not all Germans were as tolerant as in Powells experience. In manyà cases, there was resentment of the black GIs having relationships with white German women. The children of German women and black GIs in Germany were called occupation childrenâ⬠(Besatzungskinder) - or worse.à Mischlingskindà (half-breed/mongrel child) was one of the least offensive terms used for half-black children in the 1950s and 60s.à More About the Term 'Afrodeutsche' German-born blacks are sometimes called Afrodeutsche (Afro-Germans)à but the term is still not widely used by the general public. This category includes people of African heritage born in Germany. In some cases, only one parent is black But just being born in Germany does not make you a German citizen. (Unlike many other countries, German citizenship is based on the citizenship of your parents and is passed on by blood.) This means that black people born in Germany, who grew up there and speak fluent German, are not German citizens unless they have at least one German parent. However, in 2000, a new German naturalization law made it possible for black people and other foreigners to apply for citizenship after living in Germany for three to eight years. In the 1986 book, Farbe Bekennenà - à Afrodeutsche Frauen auf den Spuren Ihrer Geschichte, authors May Ayimà andà Katharina Oguntoyeà opened up a debate about being black in Germany. Although the book dealt primarily with black women in German society, it introduced the term Afro-German into the German languageà (borrowed from Afro-American or African American) and also sparked the founding of a support group for blacks in Germany, the ISD (Initiative Schwarzer Deutscher).

An Overview of Selective Amino acid Based NLO Crystals
An Overview of Selective Amino acid Based NLO Crystals Piperidine ring is one of the most recognizable structural entities among heterocyclic molecules [24]. Piperidine has a six-membered ring similar to cyclohexane with one methylene (CH2) replaced by secondary amino (NH) group. In 1853, Cahours, discovered the alkaloid piperine 1, which occurs in black pepper. Piperidine which was first isolated from piperine 1, inhibits human P-glycoprotein and CYP3A4. Thousands of piperidine compounds have been cited in clinical and preclinical studies. The synthesis of piperidine is easy, economic and less time consuming. The parent molecule is flexible in nature and hence various derivatives can be easily prepared by altering its substituent. In recent years, research efforts have been made in exploring novel organic materials for their potential use in a variety of devices. The materials which could produce green/blue laser light and could withstand high energy light radiation are of vital importance for their uses in devices. The basic understanding of organic nonlinear optical materials has been well established and extensive studies have been motivated by their wide range of potential applications. Optical second-harmonic generation (SHG) induced by an acoustical field was observed in several composites, both in bulk as well as in large sized nano crystallite samples. The effect is generally explained by a non-centrosymmetric spatial charge density distribution of photo carrier excitation under an external acoustical field due to the electrostriction (photo acoustical) effects. An organic molecule should possess large second-order hyperpolarizability to exhibit good non-linear optical properties. ÞÃâ can be enha nced by increasing the intermolecular charge transfer interaction and by extending the size of conjugated system. The piperidine derivatives are well known for their outstanding green light transmittance much better than those observed in inorganic crystals and show conspicuous inclination to crystallize as non-centrosymmetric materials. The structural flexibility of organic compounds is an asset for materials with optimized second order NLO susceptibility, fast response and tailor-made flexibility. An innumerable of organic crystals are synthesized and grown as a part of this. One of the noticeable requirements for nonlinear crystal is that it should have excellent optical quality. For a device to flourish, it is vital that it should meet a number of criteria such as optical nonlinearity, chemical and thermal stability for life time system capability. Organic NLO materials are attracting a great deal of attention for possible use in optical devices because of their large optical nonlinearity, low cut-off wavelengths, fast response time and high thresholds for laser power. Most of the organic molecules show large nonlinear optical response, with the electron-donor and electron-acceptor groups located at the extreme of a system involving correlated and high delocalized ß-electron states. A nonzero SHG behavior is present in centrosymmetric crystals if chiral molecules and circularly polarized light are used. It has been recognized that the two-photon optical properties of materials should be affected by the donor acceptor strength, the molecular structure, the conjugation length and the intermolecular charge transfer etc. The D-A conjugated oligomers usually have two types of molecular structures, such as asymmetrical D-A type and symmetrical D-A-D or A-D-A type. The optical properties of these oligomers can be easily tuned by the introduction of different donor or acceptor moieties. Apart from structural flexibility, which allows fine-tuning of chemical structures for the desired NLO properties, the organic materials are of great technological interest due to their low cost, ease of fabrication, handy integration into devices, low dielectric constant, high electro-optic coefficient value, and resistance to laser damages. Polar organic crystals, which form non-centrosymmetric crystal structures, are attracting much interest due to their potentially high nonlinearities and a rapid response in electro-optic effects that often surpass those on inorganic nonlinear optical materials.

Business law case study - Coursework Example The Unfair Commercial Practices Directive (UCPD) was passed on May, 2005, and had to be executed by member countries into national law by June 12, 2007 and it was applicable by December 12, 2007. Nevertheless, some member countries ââ¬â for example, the UK, Spain and Germany ââ¬â were late in adapting this law. It is said that there are various forms of misleading information about advertising on the internet, but the main form is still associated with misleading pricing information. Clients have complained that some of the prices that firms put on their websites are not the actual prices they pay when they buy the product. Such a case was witnessed in Hillingdon Electricals Ltd (HEL) when they stated on their website that the price of iPads and Tablets were ?29 and ?19, respectively while the actual prices were ?290 and ?190 respectively. This matter brought up a lot of controversy to the organisation, where they ended up stating that it was due to human error. Some clients how visited the store demanded to be sold the gadgets on the prices advertised while others, who had bought the gadgets online went to the store to demand for refunds. This paper will discuss these issues and advice specific clients who were caught in this tussle on their next move. Scenario A ââ¬â Tony and Ursula Under the Sale of Goods Act of 1979, there are a harsh set of regulations, which sellers and retailers are expected to abide by (Wallington, 2010). When someone purchases a good, it signifies that they have entered into an agreement or contract with the vendor of the good. Under the Sale of Goods Act also, goods should be described, fit the purpose and of satisfactory quality. Fitting the purposes signifies both their day to day use, as well as also any particular purpose, which the buyer agreed with the vendor (Kidner, 2012). For instance, a buyer might specifically request for a printer, which would be compatible with his/her computer. Products sold are also expected to fit nay sample they were show in-store or any explanation in the brochure. Also, the issue of pricing comes into play because there are cases where a client can buy a product online thinking that they paid the price stated on the website and that is not true (McCarthy, 2010). If you wish to claim for a refund under the Sale of Goods Act, then you have a couple possible ways of settling your issue, relying on the situation and what you wish to be done. The claimantââ¬â¢s rights are against the vendor ââ¬â the organisation, which sold them the product ââ¬â not the producer, and so they should make any claim not towards the manufacture, but against the retailer. Nevertheless, this act does not apply to products that a client has bought on hire purchase (HP). If someone buys a product, which turns out to be flawed, then they can opt to reject it. This means they can return it and get a full refund of their money (Slocombe, 2012). The word flawed was explained at the begin ning of this section, which also included pricing errors (Wallington, 2010). However, the law only grants you a logical period to do this ââ¬â what is logical lays on the good and how clear the error is. But, even with complex items or considerable purchases, it is much safer to work with the basis that you normally have less than three to four weeks from the day you received the product to reject it (Kidner,

The canadian criminal code Essay -- essays research papers fc
The Evolution of the Canadian Criminal Code The laws of the United States have been revised numerous times, and the Criminal Code of Canada is similar. The Criminal Code is a systematically arranged body of law dealing with crime. The code has been revised multiple times over the past century by the federal government to help accommodate the numerous laws that have been applied to Canadian citizens. The history of homicide in the Criminal Code has evolved from having no degrees of murder in 1892 to having three types of culpable homicide (Leyton). The Canadian Criminal Code has changed over the years to accommodate the needs of changing times, such as amendments for gun control and the elimination of the death penalty. In 1892, the Criminal Code of Canada was established, copying much of the English 1878 bill. ââ¬Å"The Canadian Criminal code which copied the English bill of 1878 has been revised numerous times to accommodate the needs of the Canadian citizensâ⬠(Monroe). At that time there was no distinguishing between different types of murder through degrees of severity, because the punishment for every type of murder was the death penalty, and manslaughter was a life sentence in prison (Designs). In 1955, a major reform was carried out and the Canadian Criminal Code was reduced from 1100 sections to only 753. The president of the Law Reform Commission of Canada did this major reform and noted, "It is too complicated. It is too illogical. It is poorly organized. It is not comprehensive and it is too intrusive. We deserve a Criminal Code that is modern, simple, logical, coherent, comprehensive, organized, understandable and restrained" (ââ¬Å"What â⬠). One of the advantages of the reform was the addition of a constitutional principle that no person was to be convicted of an offense unless it had been provided specifically for in a statute. Even though the reform brought many new changes, the Criminal Code was not fully revised because in 1961 there were other changes done to the Code. In this change, the code included degrees of murder and divided the murders into capital and non-capital murder. The punishment for capital murder was death, while non-capital murder was punishable by life in prison (Leyton). Capital murder was categorize... ...s well as other countries, Canada uses the lethal injection and the electric chair as methods of punishment, although the lethal injection is by far the most common. Indeed the laws for Canadian citizens have changed numerous times over the years to help them accommodate the changes in their nation. Circular Flow Essay
In the textbook, there are two circular flow diagrams. One represents the flows in the macro-economy as a closed system and the other represents the flows as an open system. The circular flow diagrams show how money travels through the economic systems including businesses, households, foreign agents and governments (Editorial Board, 2013). Within the closed and open systems there are two consumers. The first consumers are households that buy goods and services and the second consumers are those businesses that purchase factors to produce. Households enter the goods market while the businesses enter factor markets. The first type of circular flow is that of the closed macro-economy system. This is the circular flow of money. A closed system is an economic model that counts only domestic exchanges but not the foreign agents. This therefore means that without foreign agents, the government or the economy is free of leakages. This system is basically shut off from surrounding environments and is self-contained. An example of a closed system would be the Earth system as a whole. Although energy passes across the Earthââ¬â¢s system boundary, no mass is exchanged throughout the Earthââ¬â¢s system and the rest of the universe (Ritter, M., 2011). The second type of circular flow in the macro-economy is considered the open system. The open system is the opposite of the closed system. It is an economic model that counts goods and services exchanged domestically and between nations (Editorial Board, 2013). In the diagram in the textbook, it indicates the circular flow of money in an open economy system. Open systems allow energy and mass to pass through and across the system boundary. An example of an open system would be the ocean. The ocean is considered an open system because it allows energy and mass to pass through. Energy which is solar radiation, latent heat and mass including water vapor and precipitation all pass across the boundary between the atmosphere andà hydrosphere of the ocean. In the closed system, households spend their money not only on domestic products but also on goods and services. While looking over the diagram should in the textbook, the inner flow of the closed system includes land, labor, and capital given to businesses from households to receive goods and services to the household. Households use the income (wages and salaries) for services offered to business to purchase goods and services from other businesses. On the other hand, businesses use the money received from households to buy factors of production they require. Thus, money flows in a circular motion within the economy. Therefore, the outer flows of a closed system include money from the household to business in order to pay for wages and rent for the houses. In the open system, there are more flow levels to consider. An open system considers the flow of money both domestically and internationally between countries. This system includes the government, households, and businesses. The demand for imports from a foreign economy consists of goods for investment, consumption of government goods. The government however enters the factor market as well as the goods market. It enters the factor market in order to obtain domestic labor, capital, and other factors of production to provide goods and services. The government enters the goods market to purchase these goods and services such as cars, trucks, pens or pencils. After the government lends out public services to the household and businesses, the households sends labor, land and capital to businesses and receive goods and services from those businesses as they pay taxes to the government. The next level flow which is the outer flow consists of money sent from the household to the businesses for wages and rent to be paid for the household. Leakages are taxes, savings, and import expenditures not spend in the economy. There are several leaks in the open system which includes leaks from households to companies, businesses to owners of factors of production and from both households and businesses to the government. Money leakages are created when an American consumer buys imports or when a company in the United States hires someone from India to work as a customer service representative. The households leaks when consumers buy goods and services from foreign businesses, and the money those households save whether in checking accounts or stocking. The business leaks when firms use labor, capital and other resources from foreign households. These leaks then inject money into the system. Injection is considered as things that enter into the households or businesses due to the leaks that were caused in the open system. An injection that comes into the household is that of foreign firms sending wages and rent to US households. An injection that comes into the businesses is that of foreign households purchasing goods produced by US firms. An example of a leakage would be a household buying a foreign car from a foreign company outside the United States. An example of an injection would be households in japan purchasing pens and pencils from firms in the United States. The difference between closed systems and open systems can be defined easily. Getting a better understanding of the two systems and how they work can help us operate throughout our daily lives and the world around us. As we grow we continue to learn about our economy and how the government interacts with households and companies. References Editorial Board (2013). Introduction to Macroeconomics. The Bogotazo Colombias Legendary Riot of 1948
On April 9, 1948, populist Colombian presidential candidate Jorge Elià ©cer Gaità ¡n was shot down in the street outside of his office in Bogotà ¡. The poor of the city, who saw him as a savior, went berserk, rioting in the streets, looting and murdering. This riot is known as the ââ¬Å"Bogotazoâ⬠or ââ¬Å"Bogotà ¡ attack.â⬠When the dust settled the next day, 3,000 were dead, much of the city had been burned to the ground. Tragically, the worst was yet to come: the Bogotazo kicked off the period in Colombia known as ââ¬Å"La Violencia,â⬠or ââ¬Å"the time of violence,â⬠in which hundreds of thousands of ordinary Colombians would die. Jorge Elià ©cer Gaità ¡n Jorge Elià ©cer Gaità ¡n was a lifelong politician and a rising star in the Liberal Party. In the 1930s and 1940s, he had served in various important government posts, including Mayor of Bogotà ¡, Minister of Labor and Minister of Education. At the time of his death, he was chairman of the Liberal Party and the favorite in the presidential elections scheduled to be held in 1950. He was a gifted speaker and thousands of Bogotà ¡Ã¢â¬â¢s poor filled the streets to hear his speeches. Even though the Conservative Party despised him and even some in his own party saw him as too radical, the Colombian working class adored him. Murder of Gaità ¡nà At about 1:15 in the afternoon of April 9, Gaità ¡n was shot three times by 20-year-old Juan Roa Sierra, who fled on foot. Gaità ¡n died almost immediately, and a mob soon formed to chase the fleeing Roa, who took refuge inside a drugstore. Even though there were policemen trying to remove him safely, the mob broke the iron gates of the drugstore and lynched Roa, who was stabbed, kicked and beaten into an unrecognizable mass, which the mob carried to the Presidential palace. The official reason given for the killing was that the disgruntled Roa had asked Gaità ¡n for a job but been denied. A Conspiracy Many people over the years have wondered if Roa was the real killer and if he acted alone. The prominent novelist Gabriel Garcà a Mà ¡rquez even took up the issue in his 2002 book ââ¬Å"Vivir para contarlaâ⬠(ââ¬Å"To live to tell itâ⬠). There were certainly those who wanted Gaità ¡n dead, including the conservative government of President Mariano Opsina Pà ©rez. Some blame Gaità ¡nââ¬â¢s own party or the CIA. The most interesting conspiracy theory implicates none other than Fidel Castro. Castro was in Bogotà ¡ at the time and had a meeting scheduled with Gaità ¡n that same day. There is little proof for this sensational theory, however. The Riots Begin A liberal radio station announced the murder, exhorting the poor of Bogotà ¡ to take to the streets, find weapons and attack government buildings. The Bogotà ¡ working class responded with enthusiasm, attacking officers and policemen, looting stores for goods and alcohol and arming themselves with everything from guns to machetes, lead pipes, and axes. They even broke into police headquarters, stealing more weapons. Appeals to Cease For the first time in decades, the Liberal and Conservative Parties found some common ground: the riot must stop. The Liberals nominated Darà o Echandà a to replace Gaità ¡n as chairman: he spoke from a balcony, begging the mob to put down their weapons and go home: his pleas fell on deaf ears. The conservative government called in the army but they could not quell the riots: they settled for shutting down the radio station that had been inflaming the mob. Eventually, the leaders of both parties simply hunkered down and waited for the riots to end on their own. Into the Night The riot lasted into the night. Hundreds of buildings were burned, including government offices, universities, churches, high schools, and even the historic San Carlos Palace, traditionally the home of the president. Many priceless works of art were destroyed in the fires. On the outskirts of town, informal marketplaces sprung up as the people bought and sold items that they had looted from the city. A great deal of alcohol was bought, sold and consumed at these markets and many of the 3,000 men and women who died in the riot were killed in the markets. Meanwhile, similar riots broke out in Medellà n and other cities. The Riot Dies Down As the night wore on, exhaustion and alcohol began to take their toll and parts of the city could be secured by the army and what was left of the police. By the next morning, it had ended, leaving behind unspeakable devastation and mayhem. For a week or so, a market on the outskirts of the city, nicknamed the ââ¬Å"feria Panamericanaâ⬠or ââ¬Å"Pan-American fairâ⬠continued to traffic in stolen goods. Control of the city was regained by the authorities and the rebuilding began. Aftermath and la Violencia When the dust had cleared from the Bogotazo, about 3,000 had died and hundreds of stores, buildings, schools, and homes had been broken into, looted and burned. Because of the anarchic nature of the riot, bringing looters and murderers to justice was nearly impossible. The clean-up lasted months and the emotional scars lasted even longer. The Bogotazo brought to light the deep hatred between the working class and the oligarchy, which had been simmering since the Thousand Daysââ¬â¢ War of 1899 to 1902. This hatred had been fed for years by demagogues and politicians with different agendas, and it may have blown up anyway at some point even if Gaità ¡n had not been killed. Some say that letting out your anger helps you to control it: in this case, the opposite was true. The poor of Bogotà ¡, who still felt that the 1946 presidential election had been rigged by the Conservative Party, vented decades of pent-up rage on their city. Rather than use the riot to find common ground, Liberal and Conservative politicians blamed one another, further fanning the flames of class hatred. The Conservatives used it as an excuse to crack down on the working class, and the Liberals saw it as a possible stepping-stone to revolution. Worst of all, the Bogotazo kicked off the period in Colombia known as ââ¬Å"La Violencia,â⬠in which death squads representing differing ideologies, parties and candidates took to the streets in the dark of night, murdering and torturing their rivals. La Violencia lasted from 1948 to 1958 or so. Even a tough military regime, installed in 1953, took five years to stop the violence. Thousands fled the country, journalists, policemen, and judges lived in fear for their lives, and hundreds of thousands of ordinary Colombian citizens died. The FARC, the Marxist guerrilla group that currently is trying to overthrow Colombiaââ¬â¢s government, traces its origins to La Violencia and the Bogotazo.

The research will describe the career of veterinary technician, what is required to become a successful veterinary technician, and the impacts this career has on today s society. Veterinary technicians first started out just being people being taken out of the street and trained to help vets do anything they needed help with. But in 1908 The Canine Nurses Institute in England made an organized effort to train veterinary assistants. it took the next 53 years for any university or college to set up a program just for animal technician. The first animal technician education program was established at the State University of New York Agricultural and Technical school in Delhi. The man that set up the program was Ralston Purina, he developed the very first animal technician training correspondence course for training laboratory animal technicians in the U.S. In 1965 the first British Veterinary Nurses Association was established, Also during this time Walter Collins, DVM receives federal funding to develop a modern curriculum for training Veterinary technicians. Dose Adjustment in Renal Disease Free Essays
GENERAL APPROACHES FOR DOSE ADJUSTMENT IN RENAL DISEASE Renal insufficiency can markedly alter one or more of the pharmacokinetic parameters of a drug including oral bioavailability, volume of distribution, drug binding to plasma proteins, and most importantly the rates of metabolism and excretion, i. e. , drug clearance. We will write a custom essay sample on Dose Adjustment in Renal Disease or any similar topic only for you Order Now . To minimize drug toxicity and maximize therapeutic benefits, it is often necessary to adjust drug dosage in proportion to the degree of renal insufficiency. A drug will most likely require dose adjustment in renal disease if: 1. A substantial fraction ( 40%) of the drug dose is excreted by the kidney either unchanged or as an active (or toxic) metabolites. 2. The drug or its active metabolite has a narrow therapeutic window such that drug accumulation cannot be tolerated. 3. The kidney is a major site for the inactivation of the drug. This applies mainly to peptides like insulin, glucagon, PTH, and imipenem. 4. There is a significant drop in the binding of the drug to plasma proteins. For instance, a decrease in the protein binding from 99 to 95% results in a fourfold rise in the unbound, active drug concentration. Dose adjustment may involve one or a combination of the following measures: 1. Extension of the dosing interval. 2. Reduction of the maintenance dose. 3. Administration of a loading dose. 4. Monitoring serum drug levels. FACTORS IN CHOOSING OF DOSE ADJUSTMENT APPROACH: Factors to consider when choosing appropriate dose adjustment approach are the class of drug ,the amplitude of the peak-trough fluctuation relative to the therapeutic index, magnitude of the dose with respect to the dose strength to be marketed and practicality of calculated dosing interval. Pharmacokinetic simulations can be especially helpful in visualizing the impact of various dose and interval changes and interval changes on the concentration time (C-T) profile at steady state. Reduced elimination of a drug prolongs its half life (t? ) as well as the time required for the serum level to reach a steady state (4 times t? ). Therefore, whenever it is clinically desirable to rapidly achieve a therapeutic steady state level a loading dose should administered. To maintain a therapeutic level and, at the same time, avoid drug accumulation and toxicity in a patient with reduced renal function, the clinician must consider reducing the size of the maintenance dose or the dosing frequency or both. In general, this reduction should also be proportional to the degree of renal impairment , but should also take into account adaptive or compensatory changes in the metabolism and excretion of the drug through non-renal routes. MAINTENANCE DOSE REDUCTION METHOD: The maintenance dose reduction method is used whenever a more constant (less oscillating) serum drug level is therapeutically preferable (e. . , ? -lactam antibiotics) Let us assume that one has already defined a safe and effective dose regimen for use in normal patients. This normal dose regimen is then adjusted according to dose fraction by two basic procedures. First method termed as constant interval, dose-reduction (DR) reduces the dose (D) by a factor of the dose fraction. Dose interval is the same as that used in the health person. D renal failure = D normal Kf t renal failure = t normal INTERVAL EXTENSION METHOD The second method referred to as constant dose, interval-extension(IE) extends dose interval by inverse of dose fraction, a value referred to as the dose interval multiplier : t renal failure = t normal (1/ kf) D renal failure = D normal This type of dose adjustment strategy may also be implemented through the use of a nomogram where the dosage interval multiplier for this IE regimen is simply read off a plot of creatinine clearance Interval extension method is used for drugs for which a constant serum level is either unnecessary (eg, vigabatrin) or undesirable (e. g. , aminoglycoside antibiotics). This method is also used for drugs that normally have long elimination t?. However, a combination of the two methods is often used. In addition, for a drug whose therapeutic serum level range is known and routinely measured, dosage adjustment is often guided by monitoring the serum drug level and the patientââ¬â¢s response in terms of the therapeutic benefit and adverse drug reactions (toxicity). Lab report water Sample
Lab report water Paper If the amylase only partly digests the starch, what would you expect to happen? If the amylase only partly digests the starch, I would expect to see a faint color change as well as a small presence of glucose inside the intestine. If the amylase fails to digest the starch, what results would you expect? If the amylase fails to digest the starch, I would expect the solution inside the intestine (Dialysis tubing) to change color to blue-black due to the chemical action that will occur when the Logos regent (kill) permeates through the intestine (Dialysis tubing). Why is it necessary to have a control for this experiment? By having a control in this experiment, we can see the changes with the presence of amylase. Logos regent (kill) changes color in the presence of starch, which is the control group that we have setup that demonstrates what would happen naturally, with starch and Logos regent (kill). The control group will have a distinct comparison available for us. As amylase, an enzyme that catalysts the reawaken of the starch into glucose, which will have no reaction with Logos regent (kill) as well as no color change. No, the starch molecules were not able to cross the membrane, because if it were able to pass through, then the solution on the outside of the intestine (Dialysis tubing) would have changed color to blue-black. Were Lug molecules able to cross the membrane? Yes, the starch molecules were able to cross the membrane as we observe the lour changes that occur inside the intestine (Dialysis tubing). What is your conclusion regard amylase digestive activity? In this experiment, I concluded that amylase have the abilities to catalyst the breakdown of the starch into glucose. Also, some molecules, such as the Logos regent (kill) and glucose are able to permeate through intestine (Dialysis tubing) while others, such as starch is not able to permeate through the (Dialysis What does this experiment tell you about the size of glucose molecules and membrane permeability? This experiment tells me the size of the glucose molecule is very small in comparison to starch molecule. They have high membrane permeability that allows them to permeate through the intestine (Dialysis tubing); this is supported by the presence of glucose in the water when we conducted the glucose test. In the experiment, did the movement of glucose and starch molecule reflect the expected results of biological simulation? In this experiment, the glucose and starch molecules accurately reflected the expected results of the biological simulation. Animals starch molecule cant cross the plasma membrane to leave the intestine, similarity in our experiment, the starch solution were not able to permeate through the intestine (Dialysis tubing), thus a no change of color occurred in the Logos regent (kill) solution. Furthermore, the glucose molecules can cross membrane between the intestine and circulatory system, and this is proven accurate as we were able to test the presence of glucose in the Logos regent (kill) solution that contain amylase in the intestine (Dialysis tubing).

Probabilities for Monopoly
Probabilities for Monopoly Monopoly is a board game in which players get to put capitalism into action. Players buy and sell properties and charge each other rent. Although there are social and strategic portions of the game, players move their pieces around the board by rolling two standard six-sided dice. Since this controls how the players move, there is also an aspect of probability to the game. By only knowing a few facts, we can calculate how likely it is to land on certain spaces during the first two turns at the beginning of the game. The Dice On each turn, a player rolls two dice and then moves his or her piece that many spaces on the board. So it is helpful to review the probabilities for rolling two dice. In summary, the following sums are possible: A sum of two has probability 1/36.A sum of three has probability 2/36.A sum of four has probability 3/36.A sum of five has probability 4/36.A sum of six has probability 5/36.A sum of seven has probability 6/36.A sum of eight has probability 5/36.A sum of nine has probability 4/36.A sum of ten has probability 3/36.A sum of eleven has probability 2/36.A sum of twelve has probability 1/36. These probabilities will be very important as we continue. The Monopoly Gameboard We also need to take note of the Monopoly gameboard. There are a total of 40 spaces around the gameboard, with 28 of these properties, railroads, or utilities that can be purchased. Six spaces involve drawing a card from the Chance or Community Chest piles. Three spaces are free spaces in which nothing happens. Two spaces involving paying taxes: either income tax or luxury tax. One space sends the player to jail. We will only consider the first two turns of a game of Monopoly. In the course of these turns, the furthest we could get around the board is to roll twelve twice and move a total of 24 spaces. So we will only examine the first 24 spaces on the board. In order these spaces are: Mediterranean AvenueCommunity ChestBaltic AvenueIncome TaxReading RailroadOriental AvenueChanceVermont AvenueConnecticut TaxJust Visiting JailSt. James PlaceElectric CompanyStates AvenueVirginia AvenuePennsylvania RailroadSt. James PlaceCommunity ChestTennessee AvenueNew York AvenueFree ParkingKentucky AvenueChanceIndiana AvenueIllinois Avenue First Turn The first turn is relatively straightforward. Since we have probabilities for rolling two dice, we simply match these up with the appropriate squares. For instance, the second space is a Community Chest square and there is a 1/36 probability of rolling a sum of two. Thus there is a 1/36 probability of landing on Community Chest on the first turn. Below are the probabilities of landing on the following spaces on the first turn: Community Chest ââ¬â 1/36Baltic Avenue ââ¬â 2/36Income Tax ââ¬â 3/36Reading Railroad ââ¬â 4/36Oriental Avenue ââ¬â 5/36Chance ââ¬â 6/36Vermont Avenue ââ¬â 5/36Connecticut Tax ââ¬â 4/36Just Visiting Jail ââ¬â 3/36St. James Place ââ¬â 2/36Electric Company ââ¬â 1/36 Second Turn Calculating the probabilities for the second turn is somewhat more difficult. We can roll a total of two on both turns and go a minimum of four spaces, or a total of 12 on both turns and go a maximum of 24 spaces. Any spaces between four and 24 can also be reached. But these can be done in different ways. For example, we could move a total of seven spaces by moving any of the following combinations: Two spaces on the first turn and five spaces on the second turnThree spaces on the first turn and four spaces on the second turnFour spaces on the first turn and three spaces on the second turnFive spaces on the first turn and two spaces on the second turn We must consider all of these possibilities when calculating probabilities. Each turnââ¬â¢s throws are independent of the next turnââ¬â¢s throw. So we do not need to worry about conditional probability, but just need to multiply each of the probabilities: The probability of rolling a two and then a five is (1/36) x (4/36) 4/1296.The probability of rolling a three and then a four is (2/36) x (3/36) 6/1296.The probability of rolling a four and then a three is (3/36) x (2/36) 6/1296.The probability of rolling a five and then a two is (4/36) x (1/36) 4/1296. Mutually Exclusive Addition Rule Other probabilities for two turns are calculated in the same way. For each case, we just need to figure out all of the possible ways to obtain a total sum corresponding to that square of the game board. Below are the probabilities(rounded to the nearest hundredth of a percent) of landing on the following spaces on the first turn: Income Tax ââ¬â 0.08%Reading Railroad ââ¬â 0.31%Oriental Avenue ââ¬â 0.77%Chance ââ¬â 1.54%Vermont Avenue ââ¬â 2.70%Connecticut Tax ââ¬â 4.32%Just Visiting Jail ââ¬â 6.17%St. James Place ââ¬â 8.02%Electric Company ââ¬â 9.65%States Avenue ââ¬â 10.80%Virginia Avenue ââ¬â 11.27%Pennsylvania Railroad ââ¬â 10.80%St. James Place ââ¬â 9.65%Community Chest ââ¬â 8.02%Tennessee Avenue 6.17%New York Avenue 4.32%Free Parking ââ¬â 2.70%Kentucky Avenue ââ¬â 1.54%Chance ââ¬â 0.77%Indiana Avenue ââ¬â 0.31%Illinois Avenue ââ¬â 0.08% More Than Three Turns For more turns, the situation becomes even more difficult. One reason is that in the rules of the game if we roll doubles three times in a row we go to jail. This rule will affect our probabilities in ways that we didnââ¬â¢t have to previously consider. In addition to this rule, there are effects from the chance and community chest cards that we are not considering. Some of these cards direct players to skip over spaces and go directly to particular spaces. Due to the increased computational complexity, it becomes easier to calculate probabilities for more than just a few turns by using Monte Carlo methods. Computers can simulate hundreds of thousands if not millions of games of Monopoly, and the probabilities of landing on each space can be calculated empirically from these games.
